FAQ

What is this place? Some kind of a store? What's going on here?
Yes, it is a moped shop. We sell mopeds and moped parts.

What are these things? Scooters?
No, they are mopeds.

Can I pedal it like a bike?
Sure, if you want to... they also have an engine that makes them go without pedaling.

Give me your address there.
1138 Manhattan Ave at the corner of Box St. and Manhattan Ave.

Where's Box Street??
Northern Greenpoint, in Brooklyn. Call us for directions, I guess: 718-389-1979

How much is a moped?
The prices of our mopeds vary. Check out our sales page HERE.

How fast they go?
A stock moped generally goes between 27 - 35 MPH.

Can you make it go faster?
Maybe... There are many possibilities which vary according to what kind of moped you have and what kind of performance you are hoping for. Give us a call and we can tell you what your options are.

Can you fix my broken moped?
Yes. Please check out our services page HERE for rates and info.

Can you fix it today?
Probably not. We have limited space which means there is a waiting list for repairs. Call us first and have your name put on the list. Please do not bring your broken moped to the shop unannounced expecting to have it serviced. We would hate to see you frown.

Do I need to get a registration? Do I need a driver's license? Do I need insurance? Do I need a title? Do I have to wear a helmet?
Yes, in the state of New York, you do need to get your moped registered. You do need to have a driver's license. You may be required to have insurance based on what class your moped is registered as with the DMV. The state of New York does not issue titles on mopeds, only a transferrable registration. You do need to wear a helmet. You will eventually be pulled over by the police if you don't, and it's just common sense to wear one anyway. Check out the New York State DMV site HERE for detailed information. It's not complicated, we promise.

What forms do I need to get a registration?
Go to the NYS DMV website and download the following forms:

Why do you guys have plates on these mopeds? Just for looks? I think you guys are wrong about this. You don't need plates. If it's under 50cc, you don't need a license or a registration.
Sure, whatever buddy. Tell that to the police. Also, once again here are the laws. You're wrong.

Can the shop register my moped for me?
No. That would not be legal.

I want to get insurance for my moped. How much would it cost?
No idea. We are not an insurance company. We suggest you call around for rates.

Is it a bad idea for me to ride my moped without a license plate? Do you think I'll get pulled over? Can you guys give me a receipt or something saying that I just had it fixed here?
Yes. It is a very very bad idea. If you get pulled over, the police can give you a number of violations which could cause you to lose your license and spend a lot of time in court. A receipt from the moped shop will do you no good. Believe it or not, but the police do not care about the reason for why you are riding around on an unregistered moped.

My moped got stolen! Can you guys keep an eye out for it?
YES! Please inform us if your moped is ever stolen. Send us all the info that you possibly can. Chances are, someone will bring it through here for some reason or another and we would love to help you get it back.

Can I rent a moped from you so that I can ride to the beach today?
No. We can not and will not rent a moped to you. You are quite welcome to talk to us about buying one, though.

Can I rent a moped from you to use as a prop for a photo shoot or a movie?
Yes, that can be done. Check out our services page for more details. GO HERE.

I don't live in NYC. I live somewhere in a land far away. Can I buy something from you and have it shipped to me?
Sure thing, boss. Give us a call and let us know what you want. You pay for shipping and we'll get it out to you as fast as whichever UPS service you choose. Also, we have an eBay Store!

How can I pay for my wonderful new moped?
We take cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and PayPal.

What kind of mopeds are you selling? Do you have ______ ?
Check out our sales page HERE to see what's currently on the sales floor. If you're looking for something in particular, there's a good chance we can help you find it or build it for you. Give us a call or send an email if you're looking for something special.

So you guys do special builds/custom mopeds?
Yeah, totally. Contact us and we'll talk shop.

If I buy a moped from you guys, what kind of warranty/guarantee do you offer?
A very very limited one. We would take responsibility for any mistakes that we could have made when setting up the moped here at the shop, but we can not guarantee any of the parts, old or new, since we can not possibly know how a person cares for the moped after it leaves our store.

Will this moped be reliable?
It definitely can be, but, like anything, a moped does require a certain amount of maintenence and care to keep it running properly. We would advise any moped owner to get some kind of basic tool set at the least, if you do not already have one.

Have you ever noticed that Hard Luck Woman sounds a lot like a Rod Stewart song?
Yes, we have. Paul Stanley wrote it for Rod Stewart, but he turned it down. They made Peter Criss sing it because he's a kitty-kat man.

What's the deal with your blog?
Jokes.

Will you work on my scooter/motorcycle/bicycle/goped/pocketbike?
No, sorry. We specialize in mopeds and only mopeds.

Can you teach me how to fix my moped or can I watch you fix my moped?
No deal. We do not have the time or space to offer that kind of service, sadly. BUT! Do yourself a favor and check out MOPED ARMY. The site is an invaluable source to the moped owner and has many guides for beginners.

What kind of stuff do you sell besides mopeds?
All kinds of goodies. We regularly stock most general replacement parts for the most common makes and models of mopeds - cables, tires, tubes, pedals, chains, oil, spark plugs, engine parts, etc, as well as performance parts and many other aftermarket upgrades and accessories! If you are looking for something in particular, just give us a call and we'll let you know if it's on hand. If we don't have it, we can most likely have it in a matter of a few days, depending on supplier availability.

Here is a list of stuff we DO NOT sell:
